X'mas... Now and Then.....

X'mas has always been an occasion i look forward to... it's somewhat like your birthday... 363 days of the year, you are totally excited about it, and keep counting down the days... but on the 364th day, you have a pile of work to finish, or some uninteresting place to go to, and on the D-day, you are dead tired that you end up spending the entire day sleeping!!...

After spending the last four consecutive X'mas' in India, yesterday was the first time i attended the Indian midnight service!!... and i gotta tell you this, i was shocked at the shocking difference between the midnight service in India, and that in Muscat!! (i used two 'shocking's in the same sentence... i guess that itself explains how shocked i was!!)... i might be a little embarrassed to say so, but i must say that the more exciting version is definitely in Muscat, a Muslim-dominated capital!!!... atleast the Santa's in Muscat look pretty realistic, and they hand out those amazing 'walking-stick' shaped candies (i don't know whether they have a specific name for those candies... i'm not really into candy nomenclature) that take ages to finish... sometimes you end up chewing on the candy the entire night, and still have half the candy tucked away in the refrigerator!!!... however, in India, the Santa's, with their paper masks and the eclairs they hand out, are definitely a no-no!!!...

The dressing senses are as contrastive as day and night!... in Muscat, there are the 'dare-to-bare' aunties and chicks, and the 'suited-up' men... if you're not in your suit, you're just "oh, one of those mallus".... in India, however, the attire ain't that complicated... if in case you happen to be one of those 'gentlemen' who wear pants and tuck in their shirts on special occasions, you're sure to get admirative glances from all around the church!...

Then, there's the excitement of parking your car in Muscat. the church's parking lot gets filled up, half a day before the service starts!!!... more often than not, you end up parking your car in the temple parking lot, and walking back kilometers... however, in India this time, i was half an hour late for the service, yet i had the privilege of parking right near the church building entrance!!!...

Then, there are the 'angled-dashers' in Muscat... they are those bunch of male kids who are somewhere between the 7th grade and the 11th grade... an hour before the service, an hour after the service, and throughout the entire service, they keep dashing through the church premises for no reason!!!.... they don't exactly run, just walk... walk as fast as they can, with a bounce-y motion... they angle their shoulders in such a way that the right shoulder is a full 20cm ahead of the left one, and it gives you the impression that they're charging at someone, when in reality, they are just walking... walking for no reason... they have nothing to do at their destinations... hell, they have no destinations in the first place!!!... all they do is walk around the church... they only want to make themselves look busy....

Oh and that's the biiiig cake i cut last week for my birthday!

Ah... i guess that's it for now... hope you all have a wonderful X'mas!!!.... with a long list of parties lined up for me, i'm pretty much sure i'll be having fun!

*****MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!*****
